The number of children’s books about refugees has recently increased in Turkey. Some of these books have been translated from different languages, some of them have been published in Turkish. These books are used by teachers for educational purposes to handle the refugee issue in their classes. Yet, the number of pedagogical sources discussing how to use these books in the classroom is very limited in the Turkish context. Academic research usually focuses on the analysis of stories or representation of refugees. This paper aims to present a conceptual framework for using these books for educational purposes. The paper underlines the importance of norm-critical approach rather than adopting a pedagogy that emphasizes the deficiency or difference of refugees.
